Our guide favorite trip!

Explore southern Arizona and the unique sky islands only found in the desert! Lifted thousands of feet above the desert you'll experience an ecosystem protected from the desert sands and heat that have created a utopia for plants and animals that would otherwise never survive!

Let's Go!

Arizona Sky Island Gems

Arizona is more than just hot sand and cactus! Explore a unique combination of flora and fauna trapped in the high altitudes above the desert. Hiking into the Sub-alpine forest we will surround ourselves with rhyolite pinnacles and trees high above the desert heat!

Departing from Tucson, Arizona we will head deeper South to set up camp and prepare for the hike of the day....Heliograph Peak! Standing tall at 10,022 ft it is part of a range of mountains towering above the desert sands. Over the next hour we will drive from the Sonoran Desert and up into the Pinaleños mountains to our trailhead. Hiking one of the highest mountains in Southern Arizona we will reach the heliograph tower....a historical tower used to flash messages over great distances in the 1800's! Hiking down from the views we will return to the van and camp for dinner and showers!

Hike: Heliograph peak 10,022 ft elevation. 5 mile loop, 1100ft gain/decent.

Lunch/Dinner included

After an amazing guide prepared breakfast we will make our lunches and head out for the days hike. Driving back into the Pinaleños range we will explore the southern edge of the range giving views that look like you can see the edge of the world! Starting from the Ladybug Saddle sitting at 8580 ft we start our 6 mile decent to the desert. The hike lets you get up close and personal to the changes in the environment from high mountains to the low desert! Once we hit the bottom we will jump in the van and head back to camp for dinner and showers!

Hike: Ladybug peak 8,780 ft elevation. 6 mile point-to-point, 600 ft gain 3800ft decent.

After another great breakfast from your guides we will pack up camp and head out for the Chiricahua National Monument. Our drive will take about 1.5 hours and arrive at Bonita Campground inside the park. After camp setup and lunch we will head out for our days hike....Echo Canyon! A short 3.5 mile loop will get us up close and personal with the Grottoes, a unique tunnel like formation within the rhyolite towers. Return to camp for guide prepared dinner and stories around the fire!

The heart of the rocks trail will take us to some of the most unusual rock formations in the monument, including Duck Rock and Big Balanced Rock. Literally some of the coolest rock formations you'll ever see! Our 7 mile hike will take us around the amphitheater and into the towers and rock gardens viewed from yesterdays lookout point! Hiking into camp we will get some dinner and prepare for some dark sky views that will blow your mind!
